Decisions

I haven't posted for a while. Over a month in fact. In part due to focus on soon-to-be-finished thesis: Community Food Systems: Meeting Human Needs and Working toward Sustainability. In part because I simply haven't had anything that I really felt was worth writing about. And largely in part because of the frustration I am feeling toward the US in general. I've borrowed the text below from a friend to introduce the link at the bottom of the page... the link pretty much sums up my frustration and despair. Actually - my lack of confidence in one individual's ability to do anything about it is my cause for despair. Am I to return to a country full of people so blind to the recent and ongoing atrocities that it commits? Am I to return to such a country and pay taxes and support big businesses who wear blinders that limit their vision to financial records? While it may be a great place for individuals to live and pursue opportunities... it's a really atrocious place from a big-picture view. And thus my dilemma: do I live my life for myself -- taking advantage of the lot in life that I've been given, living a physically comfortable life? Or do I live my life for a greater good -- not knowing what that means, but knowing that it means going against the current... perhaps with less physical comfort, but with a clear conscience.

Decisions.

Anyway- here's the email from Michelle:

An interesting piece by a professor (Churchill) who has ruffled a few too many feathers at U Colorado. Boulder. Some complained about his statements, and it launched an investigation into his conduct. In the course of the investigation, some irregularities in his research were discovered, which spawned another investigation into his academic integrity. This second investigation has led to his being fired (he was a tenured professor), and he is threatening to sue because he believes it is all about his unpopular political views.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting because it is the clearest I have ever seen anyone publicly draw the connections between American foreign policy, domestic ignorance, and "terrorist" activity. Kind of a SP4 "whole-system" perspective on the Iraq situation. Definitely controversial here in the US (at one point he refers to the stock brokers that worked in the WTC as "little Eichmanns") - an interesting read.
